Feeding the Family
We're changing our eating behaviour and it's Mums who are leading the way.
A recent report on home food trends shows that Mums are ‘dejunking' their children's diet and reinstating a healthier approach when it comes to feeding the family.
Over half the Mums spoken to said they're actively seeking out additive free foods for their family. They have a growing interest in organic foods too, 20 per cent say they now try to buy organic whenever they can.
Cooking the evening meal is something people now feel is worth investing time and effort in. The study showed that 3 in 4 households freshly prepared the main meal of the day and that 70 per cent of households with children ate their meal as a ‘family'.
The study also showed there is a growing demand for seasonal and local foods and a move towards fresh food retailers – the butcher, the bakery, the deli and local produce markets.
What's changed in the last five years? We are more likely to be cooking meals at home, using fresh ingredients, having less takeaway and pre-packaged foods.
